Named Images (also known as SEO Images) increase probability of getting your product images more indexed by search engines.
No coding is needed, just install and enable Named Images in System/Configuration to get full product name in URL.
Just an quick example:
www.mystore.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/265x265/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/c/a/image1.jpg
Once Named Images is enabled you get a URL like the following:
www.mystore.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/265x265/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/c/a/acme_digital_camera_12mp.jpg
